On The DollsizeWell, we have covered some pretty heavy topics this week so I thought I’d end up on a bit of a lighter note.

According to what I hear from my friends, their kids actually use text messaging more than they make voice calls on their cell phones. So, I thought learning some texting acronyms might be handy to parents like me who are clueless when it comes to the lingo their kids use these days.

Below are some sites where you can learn more about texting shorthand. You could even try some of these out the next time you send your child a text message. They will either think you are cool or they will sigh and roll their eyes. Either way, you’ll have their attention at least for the moment. :)

Net Lingo claims to have the most complete list of texting and SMS acronyms on the net. You can even add your own!

I hate the Media lists 99 acronyms that all parents should be aware of. Some of these are offensive but it’s better to be informed than clueless when it comes to your child‘s safety.

Sharpened Glossary has a searchable database of acronyms. Just type one in and up comes the meaning!

I hope you enjoy learning some new lingo with these resources. TTFN (Ta ta for now). :)

The only thing I worry about kids texting is that they may not learn how to write and spell the "normal" way.
  • You are right! I know my teen loves to text more then he talks on the phone. But then again he could hang on that phone for ever. I know one month he had over 4000 texts. YIKES! Thankfully we have unlimited text plan.
  • Ouch! That's a lot of texts. :) I believe it though. One of my daughter's friends was visiting a while back and I don't think 30 seconds would go by without her phone alerting her to a new text message coming in. tex

  • 'I'm with you Tara. :) My poor brain doesn't work that fast. I need to type out the words so I have time to think. :)
