I’m with you Erin, it is very scary and just seems to get worse. I think the only we can do really besides monitoring them is to keep the communication lines WIDE open.

I’m so scared for my kids…not anywhere near being teenagers (and one not born yet). Things are in fast forward for kids these days. How do we get them to slow down and not be in such a hurry to grow up? Scary stuff…

Sexting is HUGE and many teens and preteens are doing it. Not only with pictures but with sexually explicit words, comments…etc.

I think the In Ohio, state law is wonderful and I wish each state had one like this. There have been cases of people secretly recording others getting dressed in locker rooms and then sending the video (from their phone) to their friends. It really is a shame.

I’ve raised (am raising) 3 teens and they are now ages 23, 21 and 17 and I also have a 9yo. Times really are different and educating your kids about what is and isn’t appropriate is key. Also, trust is earned, gained and maintained. Monitoring, questioning and keeping in touch with what your children are doing via phone and online is a good thing to do. Parents must stay in touch in order to help guide our children in the right direction.

Like the others, mine aren’t quite old enough for this yet – but I will definitely monitor their use of cell phones, internet, and any other media. I’m going to “invade” their privacy when it comes to their safety. Yep – my children need some privacy and some space – but not at the cost of their life. Especially while I’m paying the bill.

Call me “old-fashioned” – just like I did my parents… =)

My kids are nowhere near cell phone age yet, but I plan to monitor computer and cell phone usage. We as parents really have to prevent these mistakes before they happen, I think.

Wow. That is a scary statistic! My kids will not be texting! Of course my oldest is 8 years old so we have a few years still.
