Family On The Phone for the week of June 1, 2009, buzzes an extraordinary mom, Danielle Smith!
Danielle’s website, Extraordinary Mommy, has this on it’s front page:
“We want you to remember something: You are an ExtraordinaryMommy. You love, you laugh, you teach, you inspire, you believe. On your most challenging days, you are still exactly what your children need.”
Isn’t that beautiful? It made me tear up, I swear. There are days when we all need to hear those words.
Danielle’s site is just incredible! It has plenty to do and see and even boasts a Daddy Diary. Danielle is a wife and mom to two children. She not only operates her website, but she does two blog radio shows and is the editor for St. Louis Kids. She also contributes regularly to Family Foodies.I caught up with Danielle this week and talked to her about her family’s cell phone use.
Enjoy her responses below.
What kind of cell phone do you own?
A standard Blackberry
Do you and your hubby do a lot of texting and/or chatting on your phone?
My hubby has never been much of a phone talker, so text is heaven for him. He can say what he wants to say without all the chit-chat. We probably text 10+ times a day.
How important to you are special features like internet or a camera on your phone?
On my phone, the internet is a must for me – I use it regularly for all types of social media, as well as gathering info I might need – addresses, phone numbers, store hours, etc. I like having the camera – in fact, I would HATE if I didn’t have it, but I don’t use it more than 1-2x a week.
When your children are older and want a phone, at what age do you think you’ll oblige them?
Ohhhh….this is a tough one. My kids are only 4 and 2 (will be 5 and 3 in the next month), so a cell phone is definitely not in their immediate future, however, I can imagine it will be sooner than I can possibly imagine. I only think safety – even if they are 8 or 9 – I would love for them to be able to reach me at all times, and vice versa.
Tell me your biggest pet peeve about people using their cell phones please.
I honestly don’t have a cell phone pet peeve in terms of usage in public. I don’t care if people use them in restaurants or doctor’s offices – it doesn’t phase me. I do, however, think ringers should be off in church, in movie theaters, etc.
Is there anything else about cell phones and the family that you’d like to share?
We don’t have a home phone – our cell phones have become our means for communicating with the outside world (in terms of live talking). I can remember being in college before cell phones really existed -and even had the pleasure of the ‘bag phones’ – they were huge! This type of communication has come such a long way in a very short period of time. I’m excited for the future.
I would like to take a moment to thank Danielle for being a lovely Buzz A Mom! I wish her much success in all her endeavors. Please check out her website and get to know Danielle Smith and her family.
