I’m going to get my daughter a cell phone next year. A prepaid cell phone. Why?

Well, I dumped my AT&T phone a while back and got out of my contract when the company changed its terms. (Did you know that if they do that, it voids the contract? They don’t tell you that, but I saw it on the Consumerist site and it worked! No termination fee too. Haha.)

Anyway, I got a prepaid Net10 phone and everything is 10 cents a minute… even International calls which is great since my son is traveling right now.

But the best thing about this is that there aren’t any bills and I know what my costs are because I pay upfront for my calls. It’s great!

And I’m going to get a Net10 phone for my daughter Pammy, too.

My oldest will be 4 this summer, but she is already learning about answering our home phone. Won’t be long before this information is something I have to think about. It is good to see companies and vendors looking for ways to allow parents to set some boundaries and safety measures for kids in this techno-loving world.

Amy this is so great! My son just turned 8 years old and we just got him a digital camera and an mp3 player so I know eventually he is going to be wanting a cell phone. This is really helpful!

Well, my son is 2, so hopefully he won’t be asking for one of these any time soon. But, he already does love playing with the my cell phone, so I don’t know! I’m glad they have phones with more parental controls. All of this “sexting” news is scaring me to have a teenager.
