So, you are going to buy a new cell phone. What features will it have? What will it look like? What brand is the best? Will you do research on different phones your service provider sells or will you just go look and find the one that strikes you at the moment?

There are many factors to consider when purchasing a brand new phone.

The options are numerous according to what you want to spend and what you want to be able to accomplish on your new phone.

Here are some of the most popular options for cell phones these days. You can pick and choose or get them all!

  1. Camera-The majority of new cell phones you’ll find have cameras. The quality of photos you can take varies by phone and megapixels. Why would you want a camera on your phone? See my last post!
  2. Qwerty Keyboard-More and more phones are equipped with this feature. The phones slide up and down or side to side to reveal a full keyboard just like on your computer. This feature is fabulous if you are a texting fool like I am. It makes texting faster and easier.
  3. Music Player-The capabilities of this one depends on the phone and is quite varied. It can be as simple as being able to upload mp3′s onto your phone all the way to having VCast Music with Rhapsody right on your cell. You can also have video’s with many phones.
  4. Bluetooth-This feature allows you to talk on your phone without having to hold your phone to your ear. You can simply hook your Bluetooth device (usually sold separately) to your ear and talk away. The downside? People may think you are talking to them or worse, yourself!
  5. Text messaging-Almost all phones have the capability to text nowadays. Make sure to check your plan for unlimited texting if you really enjoy it or your children do.
  6. Removable Memory-This is used for saving a lot of photos and music to your phone.
  7. Chaperone Parent/Child-Many newer phones (Verizon has this) have this feature. It is basically a tracking device to keep track of your kids. It monitors calls and test usage and can even set up zones where your child is allowed to. If your child leaves the zone, it will send a text notifying the parent.
  8. Mobile Web-If you are someone who likes to never be far from the internet, this feature is for you. Check email, monitor your Myspace or Facebook or any number of other things including internet messaging.
  9. Navigation systems-Again Verizon does this one. Although this navigation system is not as powerful as one that stands alone in your vehicle, the one you can get on your phone will probably suit your needs. It gives directions over your speakerphone. With Verizon’s VZ Navigator, you not only need the phone with the capability but you must also subscribe to the service.
  10. Quad Band-This is not quite as popular but allows for international roaming. This is great for those who travel for business.

Now you have even more options to choose from when you purchase your new phone. Have fun with it! Depending on your budget, the sky’s the limit.
